Shri Sampatrao Mane Mahavidyalaya Khanapur was established in June 1983, by Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha Khanapur. Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha has been doing educational work since 1933, Late Mr. Sampatrao Mane (Nana) was a founder member of this college and worked hard for the spread of education in Sangli district. He was active in social and political activities in Sangli district. He was president of the Agriculture Produce Market Committee Vita and president of Sangli Zillah Parishad. He was elected four times as MLA from the Khanapur constituency. He also established cooperative sugar Factories and cooperative spinning mills for rural development and to solve the problem of unemployment in the society.

Late Mr. Sampatrao Mane and his co-workers founded this college for the educational upliftment of the masses. They wanted to develop a new generation of leaders, who would protect our independence. Today four branches of our Sanstha’s are doing valuable service in the field of education. Shri Sampatrao Mane Mahavidyalaya Khanapur has Junior and Senior wings for Arts and Post- Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications. College also runs, Event Management, Balvadi Teachers Training and Rural Journalism and Communication Skill carrier-oriented courses from the year 2022-23.


Late. Sampatro Sitaram Mane

Shri Sampatrao Mane (Nana) was born on 5 April 1925 in Umbraj, Tal: Karad, District Satara In 1952 he started social work and political work. From 1952 to 1960, he served as the Chairman of the Market Committee, Vita for eight consecutive years. For nine consecutive years from 1969 to 1978, he worked with Bharat Sahakari Sut Girni Ltd., Sangli’s glorious job as the chairman. In 1905, he served as the founder chairman of the State Labour Co-operative Societies Federation. From 1980 to 1985, for 5 years he worked as the president of Sangli District Zilla Parishad. While ruling Zilla Parishad he implements the new ideal of the development of the rural area in front of the Maharashtra Government. During the same period, he worked as director of The Sangli District Central Co-op. Bank Ltd. Sangli.

1962-1985 from Khanapur Constituency he was elected as an MLA, with huge voting. He knew that it is important to solve the problem of water if drought-stricken and rural areas are to be developed. He made great efforts to get water to the drought-stricken area.

From 1971 to the end he did remarkable work as the President of Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha Khanapur. Facilitated secondary and higher secondary education for the students of rural and hilly areas to get an education. In order to facilitate higher education in Khanapur, he established Shri. Sampatrao Mane Mahavidyalaya in the year 1983. Many of the alumni of the college are worked as Lecturer, Govt. Officers and Business men. Such a great folk hero died on 1st October 1990 at Sangli.
