Founder of the Sanstha
Late Ganpatrao Krishnarao Mane was born in Khanapur in a famous family of Naik Nagoji Mane. He was awarded as Mulki Patil and was very popular in the local area for his justice. He started a trust called Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha Khanapur in 1933 during British rule before Independence. He established this trust for the overall development of society and to demolish inequality. The trust started 400 voluntary Primary schools throughout Khanapur Taluka. Late Sou. Rajasbai Ganpatrao Mane used to help him in his day-to-day life and look after the Institutions in his absence. He died on 31/10/1977.

History & Our Founder
Late Sampatrao Sitaram Mane (Nana)
Born on 5 April 1925 in Umbraj, Tal: Karad, District Satara. In 1952, he started social and political work. He served as Chairman of the Market Committee, Vita, and worked with Bharat Sahakari Sut Girni Ltd. From 1980 to 1985, he worked as the president of Sangli District Zilla Parishad, implementing new ideals for rural development. He was elected four times as MLA from the Khanapur constituency (1962-1985). Such a great folk hero died on 1st October 1990 at Sangli.

About S.M. Mahavidyalaya
Shri Sampatrao Mane Mahavidyalaya Khanapur was established in June 1983 by Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha Khanapur. Late Mr. Sampatrao Mane and his co-workers founded this college for the educational upliftment of the masses. They wanted to develop a new generation of leaders who would protect our independence.
Today, the college has Junior and Senior wings for Arts and Post-Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications. The college also runs Event Management, Balvadi Teachers Training, and Rural Journalism and Communication Skill career-oriented courses from the year 2022-23.

Governance & Decentralization
The governance of the institution is in tune with the vision and mission to perform multiple roles like creating new knowledge and producing an intelligent human resource pool. The Principal, Vice-Principal, and IQAC coordinator decide the policies of decentralization. Academic work is supervised throughout by IQAC, while the entire office work is supervised by the office head clerk, dividing tasks across admission, scholarship, and resource mobilization.
